What is Chiropractic?
BabyChiropractic is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and their effects on the nervous system. Chiropractors use specific adjustments (type of manipulation) to the joints especially in the spine to restore normal function and efficiency of the nervous system and thus relieving pain and symptoms.

Chiropractic finds the cause of problems. Often the “root of the disorder” is a distance away from the site of pain and must be addressed. To get the maximum benefit patients need to work with their chiropractor as a team, to co operate with advice, keep their appointments and perform exercises if required.

What do we see?
Chiropractic is suitable and effective for people of all ages from babies through to the elderly, from pregnant ladies through to top athletes. We commonly see patients with:

  • Back or neck pain
  • Migraine or headaches
  • General aches and pains
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Tennis elbow
  • Arthritic and other joint problems

This list is not exhaustive. If your condition is considered to be managed more appropriately by another health care provider or GP, we will gladly and promptly make the necessary referral. This also includes if further tests or investigations are required.

What to expect

First visit: Consultation and examination

  • A full history of your condition will be discussed as well as general health concerns that may be related to your problem
  • A thorough examination will be performed including many orthopedic, neurological and specific chiropractic tests.
  • Your chiropractor will outline an explanation of their findings and whether chiropractic will be of help.
  • All of the above is complimentary
  • Many patients wish at this stage to start that day with their treatment, there will only be a charge made for treatments rendered.

ReportSecond visit: Report of findings

  • On this visit we will assess what improvements were made with your first chiropractic treatment.
  • We will then explain again very clearly what the problem is, what it will entail to correct the problem and how long it will take.
  • We will use models, charts and x-rays if necessary.
  • An individually tailored plan of care will then be recommended for you.

Treatment phases
Acute Phase: At the start of the treatment plan patients are in pain and it is our aim to decrease this as soon as possible. Usually at this stage frequency of appointments is higher

Correction/ rehabilitation phase: In this stage patients are usually out of pain, but this is when the long lasting corrections are taking place. Joint mobility and muscle strength is increasing. The treatments are much less frequent and will be supported with exercises to stabilize and strengthen the spine.

Maintenance/ wellness phase: As a chiropractor we would not be doing our job properly if we did not guide our patients towards the benefits of wellness care. We want you to feel great and stay that way! In this phase visits are very infrequent, usually every 3-6 months and act as check ups to maintain all improvements your spine has made and also detect any other issues or relapses.

However far you wish to take you chiropractic is up to you. We are happy to work with you to achieve your health goals.
